Thank you ladies
and gents at Visual Sound. This is Jerry Pietrzak (winner of the
Rt. 66 American Overdrive contest). I've just finished a recording
project using your unique overdrive pedal (exclusively), and am very
pleased with the results. The first thing I noticed with the unit
is that it retains the character of the guitar irrespective of the
amount of gain dialed in. The sound is never "washed out"
or muddy, and always remains punchy. The rhythm guitars (2tracks, hard
left and right) were recorded on a Fender Tele Thinline reissue, gain
on the pedal was pretty much maxed out, volume about halfway, and tone
about 3/4 up w/o bass boost. This went into my tube combo (Yamaha T50-C)
set clean. Lead guitar was recorded with a Fender Big Apple Strat into
the same amp, but using the overdrive channel. The pedal was set to
provide "boost" rather than overdrive, bass boost in, with very little
distortion (set at about 9 o'clock) from the unit, tone at about 3
o'clock. This gave me a great "liquid"
type overdrive. I recorded the bass direct into my Roland VS880 using
only the compressor portion of the pedal (don't know if it is supposed
to used this way, but it worked). Compression was maxed out here, and
it helped me retain a "hot" signal without peaking out. I played all
the guitars and bass (with the exception of the solo in the middle
portion of the song, which was done by fellow shredster Lou Borella,
nice sweeping Lou!), sequencing drums and other sounds with Cakewalk.
I'm also using this pedal live with my blues band (Frankie Bell, Princess
of the Blues), and it's the only device that goes between the amp and
me. The compressor is extremely useful in the application, really tightening
up my sound. Anyway, hope you enjoy the song "Industrial Clap", and
thanks for turning me on to this cool device!
